I am very grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to share the gift of music with you. As your teacher, there are three goals that I strive to achieve. 1. All Encompassing Approach: I recognize the importance of sight-reading, theory, technique, ear-training, harmonization, transposition, history and memorization in the overall study of piano. Each skill benefits the other and they are all necessary for independent musicianship. I will work to incorporate all of these elements during your study. 2. Self-Teaching: In essence, I am consciously working myself out of a job. My goal is that you learn to interpret and understand musical symbols and notation on your own. If you can do that, you will be able to create beautiful, expressive music independently. 3. Love of Music: Music is all around us. Movie makers use it to create suspence or drama or comedy in their films, advertisers use it to connect their product with a memorable, catchy tune, worshipers use it to express their love for God. When you hear a song, it often sparks a wonderful family memory. Think of "Jingle Bells" or "White Christmas". How about "Happy Birthday" or "God Bless America". My goal for you is that you learn to appreciate great music and re-create great music on your own or with your friends. I believe music is a miracle of God. I am so pleased to experience it with you! |
