Piano parties are a fun break from our normal piano lesson schedule. Students get together to socialize, play music games, and perform a song for each other. With the change in location, students will also have the opportunity to use their musical talent for the enjoyment of the residents of Oak Brook. The piano party (performance class) takes the place of private lessons for this week.

Theory exam - @ TJC Saturday, October 29
12:30 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 12th graders
  2:00 for 5th, 6th, 9th, and 10th graders
  3:30 for 4th, 7th, 8th, and 11th graders
Everyone should have received your custom-made flashcards for theory vocabulary as well as worksheets for rhthym drills, scales, and key signatures. Parents, please remind your students to be working in their "Just the Facts" theory workbook at home. We can work in the theory workbook during the lesson but things go much more efficiently when the written work is done beforehand and we can just cover those areas that are unclear. 1st through 12th graders paid the theory exam fee in August with your SDPS registration.
***Students who pass the theory exam are eligible to participate in the TMTA Ensemble Concerts at the annual convention. Follow this link to see the East Texas Intermediate Ensemble in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKEDlS-iyZ0 Several SDPS students performed with this group!!***

Fall Festival - @ UT Tyler Saturday, November 5
We currently have about 46% of our studio signed up to participate in the Fall Festival. I'd love to see us closer to 75%!! The Fall Festival is a wonderful event for students of all ages and skill levels with students performing one memorized piece for a judge in a small recital-like format. Students wil receive positive, constructive feedback about their performance which will reinforce the things they are learning in their lessons and give them suggestions for improvement. It is also a great opportunity for students to hear other young pianists in the East Texas area and to listen to music they might want to learn in the future. The cost to participate in the Fall Festival is $15.00 due no later than Friday, October 7 and we need to have your Fall Festival performance selections nailed down no later than Friday, October 14.
***Students who score a Superior rating at local events such as the ETMTA Fall Festival are eligible to participate in the All-Star Festival at the TMTA Convention in June.***
